Nsukka and the school of new currents
Just mention Nsukka, and immediately, most art aficionados think of the university and the wealth of esteemed artists that have honed their skills at that institution. The artistry of Uli was reinvigorated there by Uche Okeke, followed by other artists such as, Chike Aniakor and El Anatsui. In order to gain an understanding into the Igbo cultural tradition, they transformed the linear and pictorial forms of body and wall decoration into a modern philosophical language that rescued Uli from its near abandonment during the colonial era.
