Biography

Kainebi was born 18 August 1964 at Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria. He attended both Auchi and Yaba Art Schools. Today Osahenye Kainebi is one of the leading contemporary Nigerian artists. Arguably, his works contribute to a new realisation of African arts beyond the confine of ethnography to one that is without boundaries, borderless and aesthetical transcultural. His work evokes emotional intensity and conviction, regardless of the theme, political, socio-cultural or abstract explorations. An essentially figurative painter, one senses a constant quest in his work for freedom of expression – without boundaries. His works evoke vibrant colours, and his controlled brush strokes alludes to the energy, passion, vision, and sometimes, anger that seemingly want to bust out of the canvas. Kainebi has held many group and solo exhibition in Nigeria and Europe.
